Peru Service Project
For Rising High School Juniors
June 9, 2023 – June 25, 2023
An adventurous way to deepen your commitment of service to others.
Join the Perú Summer Service Project and you will have an ideal opportunity to live solidarity by serving those who are poor and less fortunate. You will do so with your friendship, your knowledge, and your hard work. At the same time, you will learn a great deal from the Peruvian people, their culture, and their way of life.
Application & Payment Information
Applications received before December 31 will be given priority. Notifications of decisions will be sent out in January. Please note that an interview is included in the application process.
For those accepted, full payment is due by May 1.
The application for the 2023 project is now closed.

The Program
Every day, participants will split their time by working on a construction project and teaching at the village school.
Work Projects: Construction projects aimed at helping the local villagers will be organized in the surrounding towns. Participants will spend 5-6 hours a day on these projects.
On weekends, participants will have a chance to go on cultural trips and hiking expeditions. The daily schedule will include Mass and times of prayer.
Teaching: If the occasion arises, will be paired up to team-teach English and Catechism to a group of young Peruvian children in the province of Yauyos.
Eligibility: The Peru Service Project is open primarily to those who will be high school juniors in the Fall of 2023, are keen on deepening their commitment to service, and participate weekly in activities of formation in the youth centers that partner with YSI: Chestnut Hill Study Center, Overlook Study Center, Southmont Study Center, Tekesta Study Center, Tenley Study Center, and Warwick House.
Accommodations: Our home will be a residence owned by the Instituto Rural de Valle Grande, an organization which promotes research and educational activities for agricultural workers in the province of Yauyos. The residence is located in the village of Llapai.
Program Cost: The program fee is $700, which will cover all expenses of our 2-week stay in Perú, but not airfare. Airfare is typically between $600 and $800. YSI will coordinate air travel arrangements once acceptances are sent out.
